Quick Stops, Big Memories

Journey to Southwest Florida
As we made our way to our next home base in Southwest Florida, our journey turned into a string of unforgettable quick stops — each one giving us a unique flavor of the region and its people. Here’s a peek into our road trip highlights:
Van Horn, TX
The vast desert landscape was beautiful to drive through, but Van Horn was more of a scenic pass-through than a true stop. We kept rolling through the endless horizon, watching Texas unfold in all its size and dryness. The most unexpected moment? Passing a surprise border checkpoint as we hugged the southern edge of the state, just miles from Mexico. Of course I had that drive and wanted to make sure I did not make any wrong turns since it was unfamilair territory in the dark.
San Antonio, TX
This was a wonderful magical holiday time on the river. We stretched our legs in the heart of downtown, where twinkling Christmas lights danced across the river as we watched boat tours move under us. Dinner by the famous river walk was great way to kick off the lively holiday cheer.
New Orleans, LA
We rolled into NOLA at midnight... and let’s just say, it was a very fun and fast. Our one hotel staff member was accidentally locked out of the building, and we didn’t get into our room until after 1 a.m. Thanks to the GM for saving the night and giving us the breakfast vouchers! The next day made up for it, though. Beignets at Café du Monde, live jazz echoing through the streets, bold colored masks staring at us through the glass windows, gorgeous iron-laced balconies dressed in holiday garlands, and a powerful statue of Pope John Paul II all reminded us why NOLA is unlike anywhere else. Boomer, of course, opted for pampering himself by snoozing in the hotel bed like he ran Bourbon Street himself.
Panama City Beach, FL
This stop felt like a treat. We stayed at the Embassy Suites by Hilton, and it may just be one of our favorite hotel experiences yet. Beautiful suite layout, happy hour snacks and drinks, complimentary bikes to explore the coastline (and odd looking birds), and the kind of hospitality that feels genuine. We met Amber, a spirited and creative server who made every dinner feel like we were part of a family. It was a joy connecting with her, hearing her stories in the hospitality industry and where life’s journey has taken her. Her spark reminded us why we love this industry so much and that making friends with strangers allows us to have an open mind.
